Music Theory Lessons, Bedford.

Music theory lessons are a great way to improve your understanding of your instrument. Whether you’re an adult looking to improve your understanding of music in general, or a parent who has a child who’s keen to learn, music theory will help to develop confidence, understanding, and sensitivity.

Why should I learn music theory?

Although a lot of guitarists play by ear (which is a great skill to have) you’ll become a much better musician and guitarist should you choose to learn music theory. If you would like to do half an hour theory and half an hour practical, please let me know.

Do I have to take the exam?

It depends on what it is you want to achieve. If you’re not particularly fussed about taking an exam but still wish to learn, the same process of learning still applies. We can split an hours lesson 50/50, so for half an hour you’ll be playing the guitar and for the other half music theory.

 How is music theory taught?

Music theory is taught using books provided by ABRSM which are graded 1 -5. There are exercises provided within the books at all levels are designed to prepare you for the exam. Music theory can also be taught in small groups of 2 or 3.

Which theory book do I need to buy?

If you’re a beginner, please purchase book 1. It’s worth noting that you don’t necessarily have to be learning the guitar to have theory lessons with Bedford Guitar Teacher.
